I've Got A Quart Of Milk And Some Sound Advice

Give him a wall frame, some burnt orange paint and a zillion drill bits
And he will create a great creative space.
And I got to make a movie about it!

Masters Entries

Now I am back “on the line”
I can share a backlog of things I have been waiting to share.
First up
My entries for Scrapbooking Memories Magazine’s “Masters” competition.
I received an Honourable Mention for my Journal focused page.
Here are my entries:

5x7 photo “Love Yo Mo”

Material List

Pattern Paper: Crate Paper, American Crafts, Echo Park, Basic Grey
Vellum: We R Memory Keepers
Die Cuts: American Crafts, Crate Paper, Evalicious
Buttons: American Crafts
Wood Veneer: Cocoa Daisy
Flair: Panda 8
Stamp and Ink: Cocoa Daisy
Chipboard: Studio Calico
Cardstock: American Crafts
Electronic Cutting Machine: Silhouette Cameo
Font: Kal Barteski
Mist: Dylusions
Other: Typewriter, thread, date stamp, nail polish, paint

About the page:

When the opportunity presents itself I never miss the chance to capture a story. That is why I scrap and exactly how I viewed the 5x7 photo task. This photo needed to be scrapped but, for whatever reason, the opportunity hadn’t presented itself… until now. I love our daughter with her semi worn off, face painted moustache and the story behind this needed to be told. So first step was finding some fun products, sticking with pinks, black and a splash of gold. I just love script pattern paper so this became my foundation. I layered pink papers, to highlight the colour of her dress and to emphasis the photo. Clustering the embellishments then followed before finishing it all off with thread, paint and, of course, some typewritten journal strips. The opportunity was taken and the story was captured.

Non-conventional item: “4+2+1”

Material List
Cardstock: American Crafts
Packaging: Prima
Alpha stickers: American Crafts
Flair: Flutterby Designs, Evalicious
Wood Veneer: Flutterby Designs, Cocoa Daisy
Plastic Arrow: Studio Calico
Other: Cotton On clothing tag, IKEA paper tape, grid overlay, date stamp, machine stitching, staples, pen, typewriter, nail polish.

About the page:

My non-conventional items are a clothing tag from Cotton on, a paper tape measure from IKEA and a grid overlay from office supplies. I also included a piece of Prima packaging that would ordinarily be tossed out. I love to add “found” items to my page, so when my Husband was cleaning up his desk he discovered a grid overlay. Showing his true love though he bought it home, thinking I might like to use it. He was right! When it comes to scrappy products I am drawn to text, numbers and things with a linear pattern. So, for me, my non-conventional items were perfect for adding to this page.

Art journal cover: “Art Musings”

Material List
Journal: Old children’s book
Gesso: Chromacryl
Paint: Chromacryl
Stamps: Studio Calico and Cocoa Daisy
Ink: Cocoa Daisy, Ranger
Mist: Dylusions
Stencil: The Crafter’s Workshop
Pen: Sharpie

About the cover:

I decided to use an old children’s book, rather than buying a new journal, as I like the notion of using the existing and giving it new life. I think it allows the imagination to wander more. The possibilities for “junk” then become endless. Being able to repurpose the book into something new is the inspiration for the cover. I really wanted the old cover to peek through the new. I used some coffee ring stamps to show that the book has more purpose than just a ‘book’. It should be lived with and used liberally. The ink splat stamps also signify the new use and, hopefully, allow the reader to see that the book isn’t to be handled with care but, rather, to be layered up with more art. I hope to fill the journal with quotes that inspire me to create.

Journaling as the focus: “You Are Not A Cat”

Material List
Cardstock: American Crafts
Stamp and Ink: Cocoa Daisy
Flair: Flutterby Designs
Mist: Dylusions
Electronic Cutting Machine: Silhouette Cameo
Font: Kal Barteski
Other: Typewriter, tissue paper, thread, pen, date stamp.

About the page:

Our dog is small and very funny. He joined our family less than 12 months ago and we have noticed some interesting traits. I used these as the foundation for my, tongue in cheek, journaling. I decided to write “Mr Harry Higgins”, known as Harry for short, a letter detailing our concerns and our willingness to help him with these. I really wanted to add the stamped image of a dog onto my page. The bumpy texture of the cardstock didn’t lend itself to a great platform for a clear image. So instead I stamped onto some tissue paper and glued the cutout image onto the cardstock.
